How to use

Dissolve the magnesium flakes in warm, comfortable water and soak for about 20 minutes.

A 750 g bag is enough for about 5 foot baths or 3 full baths, depending on the amount of water and how concentrated you want the bath. For a more concentrated full-body bath, you can use a whole bag.

Magnesium salt has a naturally exfoliating effect. If your skin turns red, starts to sting or itch, use less salt next time and rinse your skin with clean water.

For external use only.

Close the bag tightly after use. Magnesium chloride readily draws moisture from the air and can otherwise form hard lumps.

  • No contaminants

Ancient Minerals uses magnesium chloride from the underground Zechstein seabed. The deposit has been isolated from modern environmental impact for millions of years and is known for its high, consistent purity.

  • Dissolves quickly

Ancient Minerals magnesium bath flakes dissolve quickly in water and leave no gritty particles behind in the bath.

FAQ

What is forest bathing?

In Japan it's called shinrin-yoku: a meditative moment in the forest where you let your senses fill with nature. An immersion of sight, sound, scent and touch. It's best done in a real forest, of course, but Forest Calm takes its inspiration from it so you can enjoy a forest bath in your bathtub. Create your own mindful ritual to relax and turn your focus inward, with relaxing magnesium chloride and the wonderful scent of conifer forest.

What's the difference between these bath flakes and Epsom salt?

Magnesium bath flakes with magnesium chloride and Epsom salt with magnesium sulfate are both used as bath salts, but they differ in form, origin and how they feel to use.

Ancient Minerals Magnesium Bath Flakes are magnesium chloride, which dissolves easily in water and makes a skin-caring, relaxing mineral bath that lowers the water's pH. Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate and is far more common. Quality and origin vary considerably between products.

Ancient Minerals magnesium chloride comes from the ancient Zechstein deposit, a deep and protected natural source. Many Epsom salt products, on the other hand, don't say where the raw material comes from and may use magnesium sulfate from different suppliers depending on availability.

Where does the magnesium chloride in Ancient Minerals come from?

The magnesium chloride in Ancient Minerals is extracted from the Zechstein deposit, an ancient and deeply buried seabed in the Netherlands. The source has been protected from modern environmental impact for millions of years and is known for its consistent quality and purity. Ancient Minerals uses only Genuine Zechstein magnesium chloride, and every product carries the Genuine Zechstein mark showing the raw material's origin and mineral identity.

Are magnesium baths suitable for children, and how much should I use?

Many families use magnesium baths as part of their child's evening bath routine. For a smaller bath, add about 1–2.5 dl (roughly ½–1 cup) of magnesium flakes to warm water and adjust the amount to the child's age and what feels comfortable. As with any new product, we recommend checking with your pediatrician, especially if your child is under 2. Forest Calm smells of forest and eucalyptus, so for children the unscented bath flakes may be a better choice.

How often can I take a magnesium bath?

You can take magnesium baths regularly as part of your routine. Many people bathe a few times a week, while others make it a daily habit. How often you bathe (or soak your feet) is entirely up to you and what feels good for your skin.

Can Ancient Minerals be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

Many women choose to use magnesium baths as part of their self-care during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, we still recommend checking with your midwife or doctor before use, especially if it's your first time using magnesium on your skin.
